Abstract

1513639 Rollers XEROX CORP 17 Dec 1976 52778/76 Heading F2U [Also in Division B3] A method of making a liquid-applicator roller having a surface pattern comprising spaced-apart bands disposed helically around the roller, comprises winding a group of filaments 1, 2, 3 helically around the roller 4 with adjacent filaments in contact with each other, the group comprising first filaments 1 for forming the bands and second filaments 2, 3 for spacing apart the first filaments, treating the filaments to cause adhesion of at least the first filament 1 or filaments to the roller, and removing the second filament or filaments 2, 3. The filaments may be of metal or polyamide. The adhesion treatment may be coating the filaments with adhesive before winding, or heat curing so that the desired filaments adhere while the remainder do not. The unwanted filaments may be unwound, or of suitable material, may be dissolved. The filaments may be of different diameters. There may be from 150 to 350 bands per inch.
