Abstract
1512225 Fish breeding tanks AIR PRODUCTS & CHEMICALS INC 15 Oct 1976 [31 Oct 1975] 45571/75 Heading A1A [Also in Division Bl] An apparatus for dissolving oxygen in fish farming water, comprises a surface aerator 4 covered by a movable hood 3. In operation, air is first expelled from the hood through a vent 11, oxygen is then passed into the tank through a diffuser 8 via a motorised valve 10 which is closed after a preset time, a sensor 18 then generates a signal which is compared with a signal in a control box 16 to determine whether sufficient oxygen has dissolved in the water, if sufficient has not been dissolved, a motor 5 is actuated to rotate the surface aerator until the concentration of oxygen in the water reaches the desired level and then the motor is deactuated. If the desired level is not reached after a predetermined time, e.g. 50 minutes, the gaseous mixture in the hood is expelled through the vent 11. In a second embodiment (Fig. 2 not shown) the concentration of oxygen in the hood is measured by a sensor (21) within the hood and when the concentration falls below a predetermined level the hood is vented. In a third embodiment (Fig. 3 not shown) the concentration of oxygen in the hood is measured indirectly by a level sensor (22) within the hood and which causes the hood to be vented when the sensor touches the water. In a fourth embodiment (Fig. 4 not shown) the submersible motor is replaced by a motor supported above the tank and having a drive shaft (23) passing through a gas tight bearing in the hood. In a fifth embodiment the hood is provided with floats (25) and oxygen is fed through a pipe (26) directly into the hood. As oxygen is dissolved in the water the level of water within the hood 3 rises relative to the level of water outside the hood 3. When the oxygen concentration falls to a predetermined level a vacuum is applied to the vent 11 until the hood is flooded.
