Abstract

1511801 Clamps R O KEEN 10 March 1976 [11 March 1975] 09565/76 Heading E2B [Also in Division F2] A locknut or clamp comprises a body 10 having two end faces 18, 20 and a longitudinal bore 12 extending from one end face to the other, at least one slot 24 extending from an end face 18 deep into the body 10, and wedging means 34 engageable with two opposite walls 26, 28 of the slot for spreading these walls apart to cause local deformation of the bore 12. The bore 12 may be plain or may have an internal thread 14. The or each slot 24 may be straight or arcuate, and may extend right through the body 10 to the end face 20. As shown, each of three symmetrically arranged arcuate slots 24 has at its centre a threaded recess 30 which is cut into at least one of the slot walls 26, 28 to receive a tapered grub screw 34. The external peripheral surface of the body 10 is formed to be drivingly engaged by a spanner or wrench. In a modification, Fig. 5, not shown, an annular groove (46) is cut into the threaded bore 12 coplanar with the inner ends of the threaded recesses 30.
