Abstract

1511166 Pipe couplings P DOLAR 24 June 1975 26665/75 Heading F2G A pipe union comprises a member 1 having a through bore with portions 2a, 2b of different diameters, an outer screw threaded part 4 being disposed in a position corresponding to the portion 2b of smaller diameter, and the portion 2a being such that it can house a pipe end inserted therein a seal being provided by a gasket 3, a backing ring 5 through which a pipe end can be inserted and fixed coaxially with the bore by means of two diametrically opposite bridge shaped appendices 6 so as to define an interspace 7 between the ring 5 and the member 1, and a pipe clamping sleeve disposed in the interspace, the sleeve having two semicircular bands 9 which may be tightened together by bolts 10 engaging lateral extensions 12 of the bands 9, the inner surfaces of the bands 9 being scored so as to grip a pipe inserted into the member 1, and the bands 9 having clips 14 thereon for engagement with the appendices 6 to retain the clamping sleeve within the interspace 7 when no pipe end is present.
