1510921 Ticket cancellation apparatus ELGEBA-GERATEBAU GmbH 2 June 1976 [2 June 1975] 22852/76 Heading G4T Apparatus for cancelling tickets comprising a plurality of fields, which apparatus comprises means for scanning the ticket, bi-directional counting means responsive to the scanning means to count a predetermined number of fields, sensing means responsive to an existing cancellation position to reset the counting means to the predetermined number and means for holding and cancelling the ticket when it attains a cancellation position. In a preferred embodiment the scanning means comprises optical reading devices in the form of reflected light sources 15, 16 to read markings 14 and feed them, in the form of pulse trains, to a logic forward-backward circuit (26) the output of which counts down to zero a predetermined numerical value set in by means of pre-selection keys 4, an additional reflected light sensor 20 detects a previously imprinted cancellation mark 19 to reset the counting means (24) to the predetermined numerical value and when the counting means reaches zero, the ticket is clamped by a magnetic system 17 and a cancellation mark 18, 19 is printed on the ticket by a magnetically operated stamp 8. The forward-backward counting device corrects automatically if the ticket is partially withdrawn during insertion. The back of each ticket may be coded with printed stripes 21, 22 to be detected by sensors 23 to check the validity of a ticket. Magnetically operated sensors, responsive to magnetic markings on the ticket, may be used in place of the optical scanning system.
