Abstract
1510940 Aluminium alloy conductors SOUTHWIRE CO 30 Nov 1976 [9 Dec 1975] 49816/76 Heading C7A A conductor having, in the form of fully annealed wire, a minimum conductivity of #58% I.A.C.S., tensile strength of< 12,000 p.s.i. and yield strength < 8,000 p.s.i., is produced by forming an alloy containing, in wt. per cent. Ni 0À2-1À60 Fe 0À3 - 1À3 Al 97 - 99À5 together with optionally up to 2% in total of one ore more of Co, Mg, Cu, Si, Zr, Ce, Nb, Hf, La, Ta, Cs, Y, Sc, Th, Sn, Mo, Zn, W, Cr, Bi, Sb, V, Re, Dy, Tb, Er, Nd, In, B, Th, Rb, Ti, C. The alloy, which must contain < 0À05% Cu, and preferably contains < 0À1% Mg when Si > 0À15%, is continuously cast into a mould formed between a peripheral groove in a casting wheel and an adjacent metal belt, and immediately hot rolled to rod which is drawn to finish gauge wire without any preliminary or intermediate anneals.
