Abstract

1509922 Emptying refuse vehicles SAUNDERS TRANSPORT Ltd 5 May 1975 [21 Feb 1974] 8052/74 Heading B8E A refuse vehicle having a fixed non-tipping cylindrical body 11 with a rear discharge opening for the transport of compressed refuse charges has an air operated discharge piston or bulkhead 14 with a concave face 17 for expelling the refuse charge. Compressed air is introduced in the space of the side 16 through a pipe to operate the piston. The face 17 of the piston has rear radial angle irons 22 supporting its rear and formed into an annular channel 23 which supports rubber or nylon air sealing rings 19, 20, Fig. 4. The piston is guided by nylon shoes 24 spaced round a ring 25 and mounted on sponge rubber 26 to ensure conforming contact with the body 11. A scraper ring 21 of laminated rubber is provided on the face 17 to clean the interior face of the body 11.
