Abstract

1509961 Cleaning mouths of plastics bags HAVER & BOECKER 1 April 1976 [18 April 1975] 16231/75 Heading B2L Mouths of filled plastics bags prior to sealing are cleaned by contact with an endless belt moistened with a cleaning fluid. The belt which may be of woven cotton or wire mesh is moistened by passage through a tank 1 of the cleaning fluid. Dirt and dust removed by the belt from the substrate is partially discharged therefrom by an air jet 20 into a further tank 24 having an outlet 26. Further cleaning of the belt is carried out in the tank 1 by additional nozzles 28, 32. Dirt and dust removed therein settles to the bottom of the tank and is discharged at 4 to a filter. The cleaned belt traverses transverse vertical partition 2 into the L.H. section of the tank into which fresh cleaning fluid together with that recycled from the filter is introduced from inlet 42. The degree of pick - up of cleaning fluid is controlled by a squeeze roller 36. In a modification to that shown a squeeze block or air nozzle may be used in place of roller 36. In addition the initial cleaning may be a scraper. As shown the substrate 50 contacts the belt from below, which in this case is a plastics bag held in position by a pair of spring plates 44.
