Abstract
1509864 Pyridine-4-carboxylic acid hydrazides and hydrazones CIBA-GEIGY AG 13 May 1976 [14 May 1975 2 April 1976] 19812/76 Heading C2C Novel compounds of Formula I wherein X represents a chlorine atom, or a methyl or methoxy group, and A represents a group of formula: wherein R 1 represents a hydrogen atom, a C 1 -C 9 alkyl, (C 1 -C 7 alkyl)-carbonyl, (C 2 -C 4 alkenyl) - carbonyl, (C 2 -C 4 ) haloalkenyl)- carbonyl, (C 1 -C 4 alkoxy) - carbonyl, (C 1 -C 4 haloalkyl)-carbonyl or phenyl group provided that if X represents a chlorine atom R 1 is other than a hydrogen atom, or R 2 represents a hydrogen atom, or a C 1 -C 6 alkyl group, and R 3 represents a C 1 -C 7 alkyl, C 2 -C 6 alkenyl (C 1 -C 4 alkyl)-carbonyl or phenyl group, the total number of carbon atoms in the radicals R 2 and R 3 being three or more, or R 2 and R 3 together represent a C 4 -C 6 alkylene chain, and salts thereof with organic or inorganic acids are used in microbicidal or plant growth regulant compositions. Compounds of Formula I in which A is -NH-NH-R 1 may be prepared by reacting a compound of formula in which Alk is an alkyl group, with a compound of formula NH 2 NHR 1 . Compounds of Formula I in which A is HNHNHCHY 1 Y 2 where Y 1 is H or C 1 -C 8 alkyl and Y 2 is C 1 -C 8 alkyl, Y 1 and Y 2 together containing no more than 8 carbon atoms may be prepared by hydrogenating a compound of formula Compounds of Formula I in which A is -NH-N=CR 2 R 3 may be prepared by condensing a compound of formula with a compound of formula R 2 -CO-R 3 . Compounds of Formula I in which A is where R<SP>1</SP> 1 is (C 1 -C 4 alkyl)carbonyl, (C 2 -C 4 alkenyl)carbonyl, (C 2 -C 4 haloalkenyl)carbonyl, (C 1 -C 4 alkoxy)carbonyl, or (C 1 -C 5 haloalkyl)carbonyl may be prepared by reacting a compound of Formula (C) see above with a compound of Formula R<SP>1</SP> 1 -Cl.
