Abstract
1509190 Mechanical switches LUCAS ELECTRICAL Ltd 25 July 1975 [14 Aug 1974] 35698/74 Heading H1N An electrical switch comprises a moulded synthetic resin rotor 17 carrying a movable contact 25 and integral with an operating knob 18 extending out of a hollow body 11 carrying fixed contacts 16, resilient means 22 urging the rotor 17 in one axial direction and mating gate components 23, 24 formed on the rotor 17 and body 11 for preventing the rotor 17 being rotated into at least one predetermined position without first axially moving the rotor 17 against the action of the resilient means 22. An axially stepped shoulder 23 of the rotor 17, which carries a spring biased bridging contact member 25, is biased by a spring 22 against a stepped shoulder 24 of the body 11 which is closed at one end by a snap fitting insulating base 12 carrying the fixed contacts 16. During rotation of the rotor 17 in one sense to a desired switching position determined by a detent device comprising a spring biased ball 28 and a cam track 27, the stepped shoulders 23, 24 of the rotor 17 and body 11 abut each other to resist further rotation. The rotor 17 then has to be depressed against the action of the spring 22 to permit further rotation thereof to the desired switching position.
