Abstract

1508874 Thermoplastic compositions MONTEDISON SpA 27 June 1975 [28 June 1974] 27391/75 Heading C3L Mechanical blends comprise (a) up to 75% of a composition in the form of granules or blocks comprising 75 to 90 weight per cent of mineral and/or organic filler in powder form and 10 to 25 weight per cent of a polymeric binder which is solid at room temperature, thermally stable up to 300‹ C. and when molten has a viscosity at 120‹ C. not exceeding 300,000 poise and (b) a thermoplastic amorphous or crystalline polymer. The products may be injection moulded or extrusion moulded. The binder may be largely atactic polypropylene or polybutene-1, polyhexene, ethylene/propylene copolymer, low density polyethylene or a copolymer of an olefin with vinyl acetate or an alkyl acrylate. The filler may be a silicate, aluminate or carbonate. Examples describe the preparation of granules or blocks of compositions comprising amorphous polypropylene with talc or calcium carbonate, and the blending of the resulting compositions with crystalline polypropylene.
