Abstract
1508373 Knitting machines; linking UNIVERSAL MASCHINENFABRIK DR RUDOLF SCHIEBER KG 26 March 1975 [27 March 1974] 12778/75 Headings D1C and DIG A knitted edge 10 produced on a doublebed flat knitting machine for subsequent linking to a piece of material 12 is transferred, with the piece 12, to a linking machine by a method including the steps of a) transferring the two rows of stitches of the edge 10 which are to be linked to piece 12 from the needles 21, 22 to stitch-holding elements 6, 7 and 6, 8 in auxiliary beds 2, 3 b) displacing the beds 2, 3 out of the operating region of the needle beds, e.g. by movement with the carriage, and preferably inverting the former beds so that the longer piece 12 is suspended, c) transferring the piece 12 from a point bar to the elements 6, 8, d) transferring the row of stitches held on elements 6, 7 to elements 6, 8, e) transferring the two rows of stitches with the interposed piece 12 to a linking points bar 18 for presentation to a linking head on the machine. Instead of the simple edge shown an edge with a folded over portion may be knitted in which case the relevant course may be placed on the elements 6, 8 by a drawing- off comb of the machine.
