Abstract
1508119 Urea synthesis MITSUI TOATSU CHEMICALS Inc 15 Feb 1977 [2 March 1976] 06319/77 Heading C2C Urea is synthesized from ammonia and carbon dioxide in a process in which (1) the ureasynthesis effluent is subjected to at least two ammonium carbamate decomposition stages including a high pressure stage at greater than 10 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP> and a low pressure stage at below 5 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP>, to separate from the effluent gaseous mixtures composed of ammonia, carbon dioxide and water-vapour, at least a part of the lowpressure separation zone being a rectification zone having a top zone and a bottom zone, (2) these gaseous mixtures are contacted with absorbent at the same pressure as the separation zones, the absorbates are recycled to the ureasynthesis zone, (3) the effluent from the highpressure separation zone is cooled to 105 to 170 C. by indirect heat-exchange with the effluent present in the bottom zone of the lowpressure rectification zone, (4) the pressure of the cooled effluent is reduced to that of the low-pressure stage and (5) this effluent is introduced into the top zone of the rectification zone and the bottom zone is heated by indirect heat-exchange in the heat-exchange zone and in an additional heating zone to maintain the temperature of the top zone at 60 to 120 C. and that of the bottom zone at 100 to 140 C.
