Abstract
1504624 Securing rollers on shafts K R KOMAREK Inc 1 May 1975 18117/75 Heading F2U A roll assembly for use in a briquetting press in which abrasive material is compressed into briquettes comprises a roll 10 shrink-fitted on a shaft 14 and clamping rings 34 and 44 which additionally secure the roll 10 to the shaft 14. The rings 34 and 44 each have an annular flange 38, 46 respectively engaging in grooves 32, 42 of the roll, are secured to the shaft by bolts 48, 50, 52, 54 which pass through holes 36 of the rings, and are also shrink-fitted to grip and radially inwardly stress the roll 10. The surface of the roll 10 has pockets 30 to assist in forming the briquettes. The shrink-fitting of the roll 10 can be by initial heating of the roll, or by cooling of the shaft. The clamping rings 34, 44 ensure that the roll 10 is still serviceable if it cracks. The roll 10 can be of tool steel, high-speed steel, stainless steel or alloy steel and can be hardened by heat treatment. The abrasive material may be calcined magnesium oxide or iron ore.
