Abstract

1503671 Teaching computer programming J H M MARTIN 1 July 1976 [3 April 1975] 13624/75 Heading G5G A board with a rectangular array of 4 rows each of 16 holes is provided with a paper pocket on its underside to receive a folded sheet of semi-opaque paper on which characters, e.g. representing a computer program, may be written at positions corresponding to the holes. The board is slid over a row of 16 electric bulbs mounted in a holder so as to form a display viewable from the upper side of the board. Illumination of the bulbs is controlled by engagement between 16 contacts on a spring- loaded bar and 16 fixed contacts, a punched card being placed between the two sets of contacts so that on depression of the spring loaded bar selective contact is made between the contacts in the two sets through holes in the punched card and the corresponding bulbs illuminated. Alternatively individual bulbs may be illuminated using a probe to engage the fixed contacts.
