Abstract
1502561 Extraction of copper values NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 5 Jan 1977 [16 Jan 1976] 01737/76 Heading C1A In the solvent extraction of copper between a non-electrically conductive organic phase and an immiscible aqueous phase, one phase containing copper values, particles of the aqueous phase are positively charged electrostatically and are contacted with the organic phase, and the copper values are abstracted from the phase in which they have become dissolved. As shown, an aqueous copper solution is fed via positively charged tube 10 carrying a guard-ring 12, so as to fall as positively charged drops through organic phase 2, into which the copper values are extracted, and from which they are subsequently abstracted, e.g. by treatment with aqueous acid, or by using the above system but with positively charged drops of aqueous acid. The organic phase preferably contains an organic extractant for copper, examples of which are given. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 1,051,159, 1,091,354, 1,301,169, 1,322,532 and 1,421,766.
