1502332 Buckles K HATTORI 15 May 1975 20550/75 Headings E2A and E2B Buckles are constructed of three sections, a frame surrounding a rectangular aperture, a tongue shaped to fit the aperture and a flexible connector. Straps or belts are fastened by passing them around the tongue which is then folded over and inserted in the aperture. In this position the tongue is flush with the frame. Two embodiments are disclosed. In the single tongue version illustrated in Figs. 8 and 14, one end of the belt 25 is permanently attached to the buckle, the free end being passed around the article to be secured and wedged in aperture 28 between tongue 27 and frame 24. Tongue 27 is made to fit aperture 28 closely in the longitudinal direction, with sloping sides 32 and 33 matching the contours of sloping walls 29 of the aperture and flat surfaces 34 and 35 able to fit flat surfaces 31 and 30 respectively. In the direction transverse to the tongue 27 (longitudinal to belt 25) small clearances of widths approximately those required to enable the belt wrapped around the tongue to lie flush with the frame are provided, by making the tongue slightly narrower and shallower than the aperture and by providing recesses in the base and side of it. Fig. 1 illustrates a double-tongued version operating similarly, but withthe belt having two free ends, one of which will be held by tongue 4 and the other by tongue 41.
