Abstract

1502286 Steaming food A COPELAND 9 Jan 1976 [13 Dec 1974] 54093/74 Heading A4D A food steamer comprises a container 2 for boiling water, means for supporting containers 10, 11, 19 for food one above the other, and a cover 3 for containing the food, the cover being doublewalled. As shown, the steamer is suitable to be placed over an electric heating ring 15 or other heat source and comprises a rectangular cover 3 having inner and outer walls 4, 6 and an access door 20. Alternatively, the heat source, either electric, gas, or oil, with a temperature regulator, is incorporated into the steamer, which may be portable. Plastics coated wire mesh trays 9 supported on dimples formed in the inner wall 4 carry the food on plates, bowls 10, poachers 11, or disposable foil containers 19. Dimples 13 maintain the spacing between the walls 4, 6 of the cover and vents 18 maintain a flow of hot air in the space 7 between these walls. Vents 14 allow steam to escape, a handle 12 may be used to carry the steamer, and a tube 16 allows water to be added to the container 2. The steamer is of stainless steel or aluminium and the water container may also be of a ceramic or glass.
