Abstract

1501254 Implantable electromedical apparatus MEDTRONIC INC 7 April 1975 [26 April 1974] 14191/75 Heading A5R A body tissue stimulator comprises a pulse generator 10' for producing tissue - stimulating pulses and a connector to which a lead 16' is connectable by means of a tool (64), Fig. 3 (not shown), the lead 16' conducting stimulating pulses to a remote body portion, and an insert 54 providing an electrically insulative seal between the connector and the stimulator and being puncturable by the tool to operate the connector, and self resealing on tool removal. The pulse generator 10' comprises a power source and electrical circuitry in a transparent epoxy, resin encapsulant 12', the lead connector comprising a bipolar silicone rubber boot 30' projecting from the pulse generator and adapted to receive in longitudinal bores the connector ends 26' of the bipolar lead 16', the opposite end of the lead having two tissue stimulating electrodes. The lead connector comprises a connector block 36' receiving in recesses 38' the connector ends 26' and having movable socket set screws 42' in threaded bores 40'. Above screws 42' is the bipolar self sealing silicone rubber insert 54 having moulded protrusions 60, 62 in line with set screws 42'. The tool (64) comprises an electrically conductive driver portion 66 able to mate with socket set screw 42' via the protrusions, the driver portion, the screw and container block 36' being metal.
