Abstract
1501196 1 - [4 - (4<SP>1</SP> - Halophenoxy) - phenyl]- pyrroles CHEMIE GRUNENTHAL GmbH 3 June 1975 [7 June 1974] 23913/75 Heading C2C Novel compounds of the Formula I wherein R 1 and R 2 are the same or different and are hydrogen, C 1-3 alkyl or phenyl and X is a halogen atom, may be prepared by (a) reacting a compound II or a salt thereof with R<SP>1</SP>COCH 2 CH 2 COR<SP>2</SP> or a monomeric or polymeric straight-chain or cyclic equivalently reactive derivative thereof, (b) reducing the nitro group of a compound IV to an amino group and converting the so formed amino group to a halogen or (c) reacting a compound V or a reactive derivative thereof with a 4-halophenol or with a reactive monomeric or dimeric derivative thereof. 1 - [4 - (4<SP>1 </SP>- Nitro - phenoxy) - phenyl] - 2,5- dimethyl pyrrole is prepared by reacting 1-(4- hydroxy - phenyl) - 2,5 - dimethyl - pyrrole with 4-chloronitrobenzene in the presence of base. Pharmaceutical compositions of the compounds I with the usual excipients lower serum cholesterol and/or lipoid level when administered enterally or parenterally.
