Abstract

1500910 Mixing valves H & D E WATTS Ltd 15 Sept 1975 [25 Sept 1974] 28318/74 Heading F2V In a mixing valve, with hot and cold inlets 7, 8 and an outlet 9, 10 or 11 always in communication with atmosphere, the inlets are connected with the outlet by an axially-extending passageway 20 and the temperature and volume of the water discharged are varied by rotation and axial displacement, respectively, of a valve member 19 in which a passageway 23 ensures that the fluid-pressure forces on the upper and lower ends of the member are substantially equal. A space 3a with which the upper end of the passageway communicates is sealed by an 0-ring 21 and a further 0-ring 14 which is free to roll as the valve member is reciprocated. A second space 3b is vented at 25. A further 0- ring 18 engages a cylindrical surface 4a when the valve is closed. In a second embodiment, the outlets 9, 10 are arranged above the inlets 7, 8 and are connected with the outlet 11 through radial extensions (26), Fig. 3 (not shown), of the passage 23, the closure member being moved up, instead of down, to close the valve.
