Abstract

1500720 Thermal insulation F H D FURNACES Ltd 20 Nov 1975 [11 Dec 1974] 53604/74 Heading F2X [Also in Divisions F4 and E1] A load-bearing thermally insulating support structure comprises a shell 1, 2, 3 formed from a moulded, compacted mixture of fibrous insulating material and a binder, the shell being filled with uncompacted fibrous insulating material 4. Examples of such materials are a mixture of alumina and silica fibres with a binder such as sodium silicate, or a ceramic fibre material. The support structure may be of parallelepiped or tubular form. Apertures (5, Fig. 3) may be provided in the walls 3 of the structure. In muffle furnaces, at least a double layer of insulating support structures (26, Fig. 5) may be disposed in the hearth, at least a single layer (30) in the wall and a single layer (35) in the roof.
