Abstract

1500708 Forming a brick &c panel IBSTOCK BUILDING PRODUCTS Ltd 26 Nov 1975 [27 Nov 1974] 51336/74 Heading B5A [Also in Divisions E1-E2] Bricks, tiles, stones &c. 26 (Fig. 2) are placed on a network of resilient material strips 24 and spacers 28 arranged on a mould base 4 and surrounded and clamped by a frame 22. Suction is applied through apertures 8 in the base 4 to hold the bricks &c., and frame 22 in position, the frame 22 is unclamped, and a mortar is fed into gaps between the bricks, and over their upper surfaces, and distributed by vibrations. The base 4 on a support 10 is pivoted about an axis 16 to a vertical position (Fig. 3) whereat the suction is released, and the frame 22 and interconnected bricks &c. are transferred to a support rack 20. The bricks &c. may be non- rectangular and coloured, and are interconnected by a mixture of sand, Portland cement, a polyvinylidene chloride copolymer and water, with a backing layer of this mixture embedding sheet reinforcement. The resilient strips 24 comprise closed-cell neoprene sponge that produces concavities in the mortar. The suction effect is increased by temporarily covering the bricks &c. with an impervious plastics sheet.
