Abstract
1500653 Glass cooker plate CARL-ZEISSSTIFTUNG [trading as JENAER GLASWERK SCHOTT & GEN] 30 Jan 1976 03841/76 Heading C1M [Also in Divisions B2 and F4] A composite glass plate, suitable for use with one or more heating elements as a cooking plate, comprises a first layer of a glass ceramic having a high transmittance value for radiation with a wave length of 0À7-5 microns and a second layer (thinner than the first) having substantial absorbence for these wave lengths, tenaciously adherent to the first layer. The second layer preferably has a thickness no more than 1/10th of that of the first layer, and may be produced by fusing metal oxides (e.g. of Co or Mn) into the first surface or by applying an enamel coating. The second layer may be only applied to preselected areas of the first layer. A third layer may be applied, on to the first layer on the opposite side thereof to the second layer, which has the same size and stress condition as the second layer but transmittance characteristics as the first layer. The second and third layers may be applied over the whole of the first layer under sufficient pressure to impart permanent compressive stress to the composite plate.
