Abstract
1500647 Decomposing halohydrocarbons CONTINENTAL OIL CO 8 Sept 1976 [15 Sept 1975 22 April 1976 24 May 1976 (2) 14 June 1976 (3)] 37239/76 Heading CIA A process for the decomposition of halogenated organic compounds containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, wherein the total number of hydrogen atoms in the mixture is at least equivalent to the total number of halogen atoms, which comprises heating the gas stream containing these halogenated organic compounds to above 300‹ C. but not above 600‹ C. after which the gas stream is contacted with a platinum, ruthenium or Pt-Ru catalyst in the presence of an oxidizing agent at a temperature of at least 350‹ C. The treatment of gas streams containing vinyl chloride, C 2 H 5 Cl, C 2 H 4 Cl 2 , CHCl 3 and CCl 4 are exemplified, and other compounds mentioned are CH 3 Cl, CH 2 Cl 2 , CH 3 CH = CHCl and CH 3 CH 2 CH = CHCl.
