Description

(54) A COMBINATION OF AN ELECTRICAL CONTACT DEVICE AND AN ELECTRICAL TERMINAL PIN (71) We, TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L M ERICSSON, a company organized under the laws of Sweden, of S-126 25 Stockholm, Sweden, do hereby declare the invention, for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement: Inis invention relates to a combination of an electrical contact device, for example one which is intended to be part of a miniature multi-pole connector, and an electrical terminal pin.
According to this invention there is provided a combination of an electrical contact device and an electrical terminal pin, the contact device comprisiilg first and second opposite contact springs each having a portion providing a contact surfaces the contact springs being joined remote from the contact surfaces by a bridge portion, :he device further comprising projecting portions which extend from the bridge portion, the terminal pin being received between the said projecting portions and joined thereto.
The said projecting portions could be closer to each other at their ends remote from the said bridge portion than they are at the bridge portion.
The invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the single figure of the accompanying drawing, which is a perspective view of an electrical contact device joined to an electrical terminal pin.
In the figure, 11 and 12 designate two contact springs having end portions 14 shaped as contact surfaces for mating with a contact pin.
The contact springs are joined by a bridge portion 13. Also, the contact device comprises projecting portions 15,16, which extend from the bridge portion 13. If necessary, and as shown, the portions 15 and 16 are bent towards each other to provide a space between them that corresponds to the thickness of the tenn- inal pin to which the contact device is joined.
A typical value of this thickness is 0.6 mm.
The contact springs 11 and 12 and the portions 13, 15 and 16 comprising the contact device are integral with one another, having been pro duced by bending a stamped-out substantially H-shaped plate so that it has a substantially U shaped section.
The device has been placed on to a terminal pin 17 so that the latter is received between the portions 15 and 16 and the device and the pin have been joined together at the portions 15 and 16, for example by spot welding at points 18. As the terminal pin is located be tween the portions 15 and 16 during the join ing operation, the risk is small that the contact springs will be deformed during this operation, for example when spot welding is used by the welding electrodes being pressed against the portions 15 and 16.
WHAT WE CLAIM IS: 1. A combination of an electrical contact device and an electrical terminal pin, the con tact device comprising first and second oppo site contact springs each having a portion pro viding a contact surface, the contact springs being joined remote from the contact surfaces by a bridge portion, the device further com prising projecting portions which extend from the bridge portion, the terminal pin being re ceived between the said projecting portions and joined thereto.
2. A combination according to Claim 1, wherein the said projecting portions are closer to each other at their ends remote from the said bridge portion than they are at the bridge portion.
3. A combination of an electrical contact device and an electrical terminal pin, substan tially as herein described with reference to the single figure of the accompanying drawing.
