Description

(54) TATTOOING INSTRUMENT (71) InKE1TH LANGLEY of 11, Greenhill Avenue, Barnsley, S. Yorks, England, British do hereby declare the invention, for which I pray that a patent may be granted to me, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement: This invention relates to tattooing instruments.
Known tattooing instruments comprises a finger grip housing a needle which is vibrated or reciprocated with respect to the instrument e.g. by a small electric motor, the needle being dipped repeatedly into ink, paint, or dye of a desired colour, as the ink, paint, or dye, is used up during the tattooing operation. Normally several instruments are employed one for each colour.
According to an aspect of the present invention, a tattooing instrument comprises a nozzle through which a tattooing needle is adapted to pass, the nozzle having a reservoir, adapted in use to hold ink, paint, or dye to be transmitted to, and applied by, the needle which is reciprocated through a nozzle guide bore by means of a cranked drive shaft connected to an electric motor.
Thus, repeated dipping of the needle of an instrument into ink, paint, or dye during the tattooing operation is eliminated and the tattooist need stop only occasionally to refill the reservoir or need not stop at all depending on the capacity of the reservoir and the size of the area being tattooed.
In the drawings: Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of a tattooing instrument according to the invention; Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the instrument of Fig. 1.
In detail, the tattooing instrument comprises a tubular finger grip (C), preferably knurled at its exterior, and may optionally include a collar (N). The grip (C), and a nozzle (D), being coaxial and a needle or needles and conrod (H) being reciprocable along this common axis.
Preferably, the nozzle is provided with a lateral opening (E), for the introduction of paint, ink, or dye to the reservoir. A reservoir (K) in the nozzle (D), also terminates at a needle guiding bore (L), extended to the top of the nozzle (D), along which bore paint, ink, or dye is conveyed during reciprocation of the needle.
To the end of the grip is connected a motor support plate (S), which plate carries a housing for an electric motor (F). An output shaft (A), of the motor extending radially with respect to the axis of the grip and the needle bar-connecting rod being cranked at its end adjacent the motor, to fit onto a hole (T), in a motor end disc located externally of the motor housing, which hole is non co-axial with respect to the axis of rotation of the output shaft of the motor.
Preferably the motor housing (F), is cylindrical and preferably carries at one end one or two projecting spigots, which are a press fit into suitably dimensioned holes (M) in the support plate (S). Remote from the support plate, the motor housing is provided with an end cap (U), having a jack plug socket (G), by which the instrument may be connected to a source of electric power.
WHAT I CLAIM IS:
1. A tattooing instrument comprising a nozzle through which a tattooing needle is adapted to pass, the nozzle have a reservoir, adapted in use to hold ink, paint, or dye to be transmitted to, and applied by, the needle which is reciprocated through a nozzle guide bore by means of a cranked drive shaft connected to an electric motor.
2. A device as described in the specification and as in claim (1), and as substantially illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
