Description

(54) IMPROVEMENTS RELATING TO GLAZING SYSTEMS (71) We, THE BRITISH ALUMI NIUM COMPANY LIMITED, a Company registered under the laws of Great Britain, of 7 Baker Street, London W1M 1AB, and formerly of Norfolk House, St. James Square, London SW1, do hereby declare the invention, for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement: This invention relates to parts for assembling glazing systems and to sheds incorporating such glazing systems and is an improvement in the invention disclosed in the Complete Specification of our co-pending application No. 53573/74.
According to one aspect of the present invention there is provided parts for assembling a glazing system as claimed in Claim 1 of Patent Application No. 53573/74 (Serial No. 1539724), in which the clip formation is constituted by the junction between the second and third arms, in which the clip means on the second member comprises a nib engageable over the junction, and in which a surface of a limb of the second member abuts said surface of the third arm both surfaces being chamfered in the sense causing the second member to be sprung and to move the first and fourth arms towards one another as the members are engaged. The second member may be provided as a number of separated members.
One embodiment of the present invention will now be described by way of example only with reference to the single figure of the accompanying drawing which is a sectional view through a glazing system around a part of one edge of a sheet of glass.
In the drawing similar reference numerals for like parts have been used as in the Complete Specification of the abovenumbered application.
A first elongate member 12 has first, second and third arms, 13, 14 and 15 and a sheet of glass 16 has its inner side face 17 abutting arm 13.
A second elongate member 22 has a fourth arm 28 having a projection 28a at its outer end to engage with the sheet 16 and a nib 54 at its inner end to engage over an end of the third arm 15 on the first member 12.
The rear face 55 of the third arm 15 is chamfered to be engaged by a correspondingly chamfered surface 56 at the end of a limb 57 on the second member 22 so that the first and fourth arms are moved towards one another as the first and second members are engaged. The first member has an additional pair of arms 58 and 59 spaced apart to receive a part 34 of a structural member of the shed as a close fit.
It will be understood that operation of the above described assembly is similar to those disclosed in the above-mentioned Complete Specification. The glass 16 is laid on to the first member 12 and the second member 22 is thereafter slid over the first member until the nib 54 springs over the end of the third arm 15 and the projection 28a bears firmly against the glass sheet 16 whilst the surfaces 55 and 56 are in firm contact and the second member 22 is slightly "sprung". At the same time a projection 60 on the end of the member 22 bears against the part 34. It will be understood that for clarity clearance is shown between the nib 54 and the end of the third arm 15, but in practice these parts would be in close engagement preventing the easy disengagement of the members 12 and 22.
WHAT WE CLAIM IS: 1. Parts for assembling a glazing system as claimed in Claim 1 of Patent Application No. 53573/74 (Serial No. 1539724), in which the clip formation is constituted by the junction between the second and third arms, in which the clip means on the second member comprises a nib engageable over

2. Parts according to Claim 1 in which the second members are provided as a number of separated members.
3. Parts according to Claim 1 or Claim 2, in which the first member has an additional pair of spaced apart arms to receive a structural member as a close fit.
4. Parts according to Claim 3 in which the second member has a projection to bear against the structural member.
5. Parts for assembling a glazing system substantially as herein described with refer ence to the single figure of the accompanying drawing.
6. A shed incorporating a glazing system assembled from parts according to any one of the preceding claims.
