Abstract
157,561. Jackson, W. J. Mellersh-, (Economy Carburetor Foreign Rights Corporation). Oct. 21, 1919. Spray carburettors.-Consists in providing in combination a tapering air-accelerating chamber and a mixing-chamber with an air-inlet valve and a fuel-valve arranged transversely at the junction of these chambers, the air-valve, fuel-valve, and a mixture throttle valve being positively and simultaneously operated. Fig. 1 shows a plan of the carburettor, and Fig. 4 shows a vertical section on the line 4-4 in Fig. 1. The primary air inlet c<5> converges to a throat, where a transversely sliding plate D is provided to control entry of air into a diverging mixing-chamber c<7>. The fuel passes from the float chamber A through a conduit a into a vertically-adjustable nozzle B, and its entry to the throat end of the mixing- chamber is controlled by a vertically adjustable needle E having a chisel-shaped end which engages a tapered hole in the nozzle to divide the jet. The mixture is controlled by a butterfly valve G fixed to a vertical spindle. f<11> operated by a lever f<12>. For the purpose of simultaneously operating the valves G, D, E, the spindle f<11> carries on an arm f<8> a pin f<9> which engages one end of a sliding bar f<7>, the other end of which engages a bell-crank f<5>, f<2> connected to a verticallysliding block d<1> which carries the valves D, E. An extra-fuel valve c<19> of the piston type having ports c<20>, c<21> which receive fuel by a conduit c<14> is operated by a lever c<22> which can occupy various positions. In one position fuel is admitted through a port c<17> on the engine side of the valve G to facilitate starting the engine, in other positions a graduated supply of fuel passes to the other side of the valve G through a port c<18> and by another adjustment both ports c<17>, c<18> are closed.
