Computing-apparatus; indicating-mechanism.- A tabular computing scale or chart and optical indicating device for use in connection with a measuring or weighing apparatus comprises a scale-bearing member having two series of superimposed indications of dissimilar or complementary colour arranged in reverse order and optical screens or media of the selected colours through which the indications on both sides of the apparatus can be viewed and so render one set or the other pre-dominant. The invention is shown applied to a weighing-machine of the type in which a rotatable drum 20, Fig. 2, connected to the weighing mechanism carries a price scale' 21, a unit charge or price per lb. scale 27. and a weight scale 28. As shown in Fig. 4, the chart which is of white paper or material is provided with a set of green indications 21<g> and a duplicate set of inverted and superimposed red indications 21<r>, the corresponding indications being 180‹ apart. The reading aperture at each side of the frame 22 is provided with a lens 26 and on one side is a screen 23<g> of green glass andon the other side a screen 23<r> of red glass so that the salesman views the chart with green light and the purchaser with red light, thereby obtaining identical scale indications in black on a green and red ground respectively. The iesult is shown in Figs. 8, 10, in which the vertical shading lines represent red colour and the slanting lines green colour. The indications may be printed on separate transparent paper and instead of providing coloured glass plates, a layer of the selected colour may be attached or coated on the lenses or the lenses may be made of glass of the proper colour. In further modifications, a small tank for the reception of a liquid such as aniline dye of the appropriate colour may be formed by the lens 26 and a plate 32 as shown in Fig. 12 or the chart may be illuminated by coloured light transmitted through screens placed in front of electric lamps.
