Description
(54) AN UMBRELLA
(71) I, SHOICHI NAGAE, a Japanese
Citizen of 7 Yokohama-cho Matsue City,
Shimane Prefecture, Japan, do hereby declare the invention for which I pray that a patent may be granted to me, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement:
This invention relates generally to an umbrella, and more particularly to an umbrella which has a perfume-emitting top cover which places its user under a perfume filled atmosphere when it is opened and remains open.
According to the invention, there is provided an umbrella having a top covering held on a collapsible frame of thin ribs radiating from the top of a carrying stick or handle, the top covering comprising synthetic resin plastics film material containing a perfumeemitting substance which emits perfume when the umbrella is open and remains open.
The invention will be further described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of a preferred embodiment of the invention;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of a further embodiment; and
Figure 3 is a cross-sectional view of a top covering of the umbrella of Figure 2 illustrating two layers of laminated different synthetic resin plastics film materials.
In the first embodiment of Figure 1 a top covering 1 consists of a single-layer synthetic resin plastics film 3 which contains a perfume-emitting substance. An embodiment of Figure 2 illustrates a double-layer top covering 1 which comprises two different synthetic resin plastics film materials laminated to a double layer, the outer layer 2 not containing a perfume-emitting substance and the inner layer 3 containing a perfume-emitting substance. In Figure 2, the top covering 1 consists of an outer film 2 of low gaspermeability and an inner film 3 of high gaspermeability and containing a perfumeemitting substance. The inner layer 3 is made of PVC film which contains preferably 40% plasticizer, and the outer layer 2 is made of
PVC film which contains preferably 30% plasticizer. Two different polymers such as high gas permeable (PVC, for example) and low gas permeable (polyester, for example) may be used to form a double-layer covering.
In the drawing, reference numeral 4 denotes a grip or handle.
The working and effect of the umbrella whose construction has been described are now explained. The plastics film 3 containing a perfume-emitting substance delivers a perfumed scent when the umbrella is opened, and continues to deliver the scent as long as the umbrella is open, placing its user in a perfume filled atmosphere under the top covering 1. In Figures 2 and 3, the outer part 2 of the covering 1 can hold a perfumed scent emitted from the inner part 3, and can prevent it from escape from the umbrella when it remains closed. This permits a long-lasting perfume emission. The invention presents advantages because of the simple construction and resulting low costs of manufacturing. The low-cost umbrella can therefore be used for advertising, because of its peculiar feature of the perfume emission.
WHAT I CLAIM IS:
1. An umbrella having a top covering held on a collapsible frame of thin ribs radiating from the top of a carrying stick or handle, the top covering comprising synthetic resin plastics film material containing a perfumeemitting substance which emits perfume when the umbrella is open and remains open.
2. An umbrella as claimed in claim 1, wherein the synthetic resin plastics film material comprises an inner film material containing a perfume-emitting substance and an outer film material not containing a perfume-emitting substance.
**WARNING** end of DESC field may overlap start of CLMS **.
Claims (4)
3. An umbrella as claimed in claim 2, wherein the inner film material has a high gas-permeability and the outer film material has a low gas-permeability.
4. An umbrella substantially as herein described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawing.
