Abstract

The appliance has a gas introduction device which is arranged in a basin (2) below the liquid level. Means are further provided which return the gas above the liquid level into the liquid. The basin (2) is covered with an inflatable sheet (1) which automatically adjusts to the gas volume at any time above the liquid level. The edge of the sheet is set in a gastight manner with elongate floats (3). The floats (3) are provided with a skirt (5) together with a weight (6). This results in reliable sealing in conjunction with a light construction, and access to the space below the sheet remains possible. <IMAGE>
