Abstract

Working-fluid supply.-Relates to means for enabling an hydraulic turbine to work under lowpressure head conditions with a high velocity of flow without endangering the continuity of the water column. To this end the turbine wheel 13 supplied from the head water 9 is arranged at or below the level of the tail-water 10, and a discharge tube is provided between the wheel and the tail-water adapted to reduce the back pressure to just enough to maintain the continuity of flow. In a modification, Fig. 4, the water flowing through the turbine 13<1> from the intake 18<1> is discharged upwardly above the turbine into a spreading discharge tube 20<11>, and the inlet and outlet pipes 16<1> 20<11> are carried like siphons above the levels 9, 10. A similar siphon arrangement may be used with the discharge tube 20, Fig. 1.
