Abstract

1438793 Removing filter cake HOLSTEIN & KAPPERT AG 7 June 1973 [8 June 1973] 27114/73 Heading BID To remove filter cake from inward-flow elements 4, unfiltered liquid in chamber 2 is displaced through outlet 9 by delivering gas through 7, the gas pressure holding the cake on the elements. The chamber 2 is then opened to atmosphere at 7, and gas delivered from 5 to filtrate chamber 1, forcing the residual filtrate back through the elements. The resulting cakefiltrate mixture which settles in sump 2' is homogenized by delivering gas through ring distributor 12 and nozzles 11, and is then discharged through conduit 9 or valve 13 by gas delivered through 5 or 7. Apex angle α is 40 to 70 degrees. Normal filtering flow is from 8 to 6.
