Abstract

1438629 Baths and basins J C KING 25 May 1973 [31 May 1972] 25440/72 Heading A4N In a sanitary fitting comprising a basin portion and a panel portion formed integrally with the basin portion and extending outwards from the rim, at least part of the panel portion extending to a free edge is of substantial area, is planar, and is of uniform thickness to the free edge, to enable that part of the panel portion to be cut to a desired shape to enable the fitting to take up a required position in a room. As shown in plan in Fig. 1, a bath 10 comprises a basin 12 with a drain-hole 20, and a rim 14 surrounded by a panel 16, moulded in one piece from fibre-glass. A side panel (18), Fig. 2 (not shown), extends at right-angles from one edge of panel 16. To install the bath in a bathroom, panels 16, 18 are cut to fit against the walls, and a wooden or other framework is used to support the bath. Plumbing fittings are also installed. Panel 16 may be apertured, during or prior to installation, for e.g. water supply pipes. The basin 12 and panels 16, 18 may be made initially in a variety of shapes and sizes, and there may be space between the basin 12 and the panel 18 for a radiator. Panel 18 may extend from more than one edge of panel 16. In another embodiment Fig. 4 (not shown) a wash-basin (52) has a top panel (56), which may be used as a table, and a side panel (58) at right-angles to panel (56). These panels are cut to fit against the walls of the bathroom, and against the bath 10. In a further embodiment Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown) a rectangular shower tray (70), with a drain (80), has a panel (76) extending outwardly to a skirt (78), which is cut to the depth required, allowing for the depth to which the tray is to be sunk into the floor. The tray is then fixed in position, using a supporting framework. The fittings may be made in other materials, e.g. plastics. The basin and the panel may be made in two parts of different materials, or of different colours, the parts being joined together e.g. by welding or by adhesive.
