Abstract

1438100 Cyclohexane derivatives L GIVAUDAN & CIE SA 25 April 1975 [26 April 1974] 17284/75 Heading C2C [Also in Division A5] The invention comprises compounds of the formulµ where R<SP>1</SP> is H or methyl, R<SP>2</SP> is C 1 -C 6 alkyl and one of the two additional bonds indicated by dots may be present. Compounds of Formula I are prepared by reacting compounds of Formula II with A-CH 3 where A is an alkali metal of Hal-Mgwhere Hal is Cl, Br or I, and hydrolysing the reaction product. Compounds of Formula II may be prepared by reacting a compound of the formula with (a) a haloacetic acid ester in the presence of an alkaline condensation agent to give a glycidic ester which is then converted into the free acid by hydrolysis and decarboxylated or (b) a compound of the formula to give an epoxide of the formula and isomerizing the epoxide by treatment with a weak Lewis acid in an aprotic solvent.
