Abstract

1438032 Crash restraint bags TOYOTA JIDOSHA KOGYO KK 6 July 1973 [13 Feb 1973] 32414/73 Heading B7B A crash restraint bag 1 formed of impervious material has a control member 3 comprising a disc portion 4 and radial legs 5 connected to a base 6 through which the bag is inflated, such that the surface T nearest the person to be protected is of flat or concave shape after inflation to receive the head or other body portion without the bag moving sideways. The controlling member 3 is formed from cloth or synthetic resin material and is fixed within the gas bag by securing the lower parts of the legs 5, by adhesives or sewing. In another embodiment, the gas bag 1 is incorporated in a steering wheel 8, Fig. 5, below a wheel pad 14 for connection to gas generator (not shown) through a passage G. When inflated, as indicated by the broken line, the surface T 1 is controlled by the legs 5 to receive a part of the body of a seat occupant.
