Abstract

1438000 Mobile luffing-arm apparatus; reciprocating conveyers IDRA-PRESSEN GmbH 16 Nov 1973 [13 Feb 1973] 53265/73 Heading B8H and B8A A die-casting and trimming press installation comprises a die-casting machine 1, a trimming press 2 and a handling device for transferring a casting 11 from the machine 1 to the press 2, the handling device comprising a first arm 6 attached to a carriage 4 which is movable along a traverse 3, a second arm 7 being pivotally mounted at the lower end of the arm 6 for movement about an axis 9 and having a pair of gripper tongs 10 at its free end, mechanical means (not described) being provided for pivoting the arm 7, and a mechanism (not described) is provided for actuating the tongs 10. A casting 11 is gripped by the tongs 10 as shown in full lines in Fig. 1 and the handling device is then moved to the left to the position shown in phantom and the arm 7 is rotated clockwise to its position shown as III so that the casting 11 is immersed in a cooling bath 12 after which the carriage 4 is moved to the right and the arm 7 is rotated upwardly to a horizontal position (V), Fig. 2 (not shown), in which the tongs and the casting held thereby are pointed towards the trimming press (2), and the casting can then be placed in the trimming press by leftward movement of the handling device. The second arm 7 may be an elongate double arm which is mounted half way along its length for rotational movement on the first arm, the partial arms of the double arm being of equal length and having respective gripper tongs at their free ends, or the second arm may be in the form of a star having four mutually equal partial arms extending at right angles from one another, the star form being mounted at its central position for rotational movement on the first arm.
