Abstract
1437510 Turbomachinery blade damping UNITED AIRCRAFT CORP 7 Dec 1973 56916/73 Heading FIT Damping of vibration of turbine or compressor vanes 2 is effected by positioning a compressible porous pad 24 of resilient metal wire about the outer end of the vane in a pocket defined between a radially outer shroud ring 10 and a cover ring 26, the vanes passing freely through slots 8 in the outer shroud ring. The pad may be of stainless steel wool, braided wire, metal felt, or knitted wire. The inner ends of the vanes are brazed or welded in slots 6 in an inner shroud ring 4. A single pad may cover one or more vane ends. A notch may be cut in the pad to receive the vane end.
