Abstract

1437340 Pistons; connecting-rods N H HOSSACK 19 Nov 1973 [4 Dec 1972] 55897/72 Heading F2T An I. C. engine comprises a cylinder formed of pairs of opposed parallel flat sides, a piston provided with a pair of opposed sides of convex shape, and a connecting-rod rigid with the piston head for driving an eccentric or crank member. The piston head may be of square or rectangular cross-section and preferably integral with the connecting-rod although it may be bolted as shown in Fig. 5. Instead of being a sliding fit the piston head may be sealed by sprung strips.
