Abstract
1436201 Poly-N-vinylamines TOM POLITEKHNICHE INST 25 April 1973 19543/73 Heading C3P [Also in Division C2] Polymers of N-vinyl amines are obtained by reacting a vinyl ether with a secondary aromatic or heterocyclic amine in the presence of a strong acid (to produce the N-vinyl monomer in situ, followed by polymerization). Organic solvent media are used. Known polymers obtainable in this manner using the corresponding starting amines and the specified vinylating agents include poly-N-vinyl carbazole, poly-N-vinyl-3- chlorocarbazole, poly-N-vinyl-3-methyl-, -3- nitro, 3-chloro-3-bromo-, -3-iodi-, -3,6-dibromocarbazoles, poly-N-vinyl-1,3,6,8-tetrahydrocarbazoles, poly-N-vinyl-diphenylamine, poly-N- vinyl-phenolthiazine and poly-N-vinyl indole, which the novel polymer poly-N-vinylphenoxazine may also be obtained. The acidic catalysts include sulphuric, perchloric, periodic, hydrogen chloride, boron trifluoride etherate. The polymers are of relative low molecular weight (100 to 3000) which correspond to approximately 5 to 15 monomer units per polymer molecule.
