Abstract
1434364 Making heat exchangers; jointing COVRAD Ltd 2 Aug 1973 [5 May 1972] 20931/72 Headings B3A and B3V Corrugated metal foil, e.g. a heat-exchange element, is made more rigid to facilitate handling by joining together the folds of adjacent corrugations by means which when applied is non-rigid. A bead of adhesive may be driven or extruded to join open or closed corrugations of aluminium foil, Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown). Alternatively, the sides 10 may be joined by wire or a strip of aluminium foil, fabric or plastics attached by an adhesive which may be pre-coated on the wire, &c. The joining medium may be received in recesses (20), Fig. 4 (not shown), and self-adhesive tape may be used. Feed-rollers may supply the foil to adhesive-applying rollers 15, Fig. 3, which may rotate in either direction. Surplus adhesive 16 is removed by wipers or rollers 18 leaving beads 17 which are cured by heating at zone 19 before passing between springs 14 for keeping the corrugations closed.
