Abstract
1433963 Printing on cans FRIED KRUPP GmbH 18 Feb 1974 [19 Feb 1973] 7314/74 Heading B6C [Also in Divisions B3 and B2] Apparatus for the production of sheet metal cans comprises as main units a stretching press for forming can bodies from blanks cut from metal strip, a washing station, and a machine providing in succession, for internal spraying of the can bodies, printing of their exterior and necking and flanging of the can bodies, and a conveyor common to the three units and operative to convey the can bodies to each unit in turn. At the printing station, the can body is placed on a heated mandrel, 51 Fig. 8, mounted on a wheel 52. Step-by-step rotation of the wheel aligns the body with a roller 54, which applies a printing coat, and with a colour printing mechanism 55. The mechanism 55 comprises individual rollers 56a-56e which apply colours to a rubber cloth 57 on a cylinder 58 for transfer to the can body. A protective varnish is applied by a roll 59 and the wheel 52 returns the can body to the conveyer. -
