Abstract

1432941 Planting machines FRANCE ARMED FORCES MINISTER OF 24 March 1965 [16 April 1964] 12578/65 Heading A1D [Also in Division B7] A vehicle for placing mines beneath the ground surface without causing substantially any observable disturbance of the surface and enabling the mines to be layed automatically as the vehicle continues in its motion in the direction F comprises rails 2 extending along the vehicle length and supporting a trolley 3. (That portion of the vehicle which supports and moves it on the ground is not shown in the drawings). The trolley is movable by an actuator 14 connected at 23 to a lever 22 connected to the trolley at 24 and biassed by a spring 25. Arms 7 pivoted at 6 to the trolley carry an arcuate box-section chute 8 into the upper end 16 of which (Fig. 5, not shown), the mines are fed. The lower end of the chute is tapered and has teeth 19a for penetrating the ground, the chute being moved by actuators 12, 12a connected at 28 to the arms 7. In operation, when the chute is lowered to enter the ground tangentially (Fig. 8, not shown) the trolley is moved rearwardly by the actuator 14 at a speed equal to the forward speed of the vehicle so that the chute is stationary relative to the ground. The movement of the mine down the chute is followed by a curved push member 11 connected to an arm 10 pivoted at 6, which arm is driven by an actuator 13 connected thereto at 9, (Fig. 9, not shown). When the chute 8 is raised (Fig. 10, not shown) the push member 11 initially remains stationary so that the mine is pushed out of a flap 17 at the lower end of the chute and is thereby deposited beneath the ground surface. A shoe 26 on the lever 22 engages the ground to act as an anchor when the trolley is moved rearwardly.
