1432574 Safety devices for jib cranes CLARKE CHAPMAN Ltd 29 March 1974 [26 April 1973] 19868/73 Heading B8B A crane comprises a jib (not shown) mounted by lugs 66 for luffing in journals 65 in a trunnion 64 on a pedestal 62 arranged for slewing on a ship's deck 60. A hoop-shaped cam 70 is secured to the lugs 66 so as to follow the luffing and slewing movements of the jib. The lower edge 76 of the cam 70 is contoured to represent the shape of the inner edge of the safe-working area (30), Fig. 1 (not shown), and co-operates with a universally-mounted arm 78 of a control switch 80, thus providing final limits for inward luffing and for slewing (a further switch (not shown) limits outward luffing). In an alternative embodiment (not shown) the cam may be fixed and the switch movable.
