1432388 2 - Alkoxy - hexahydro - cyclopenta- [b]furans F HOFFMANN-LA ROCHE & CO AG 5 July 1973 [6 July 1972] 29074/75 Divided out of 1432385 Heading C2C Novel compounds (I): in which K<SP>1</SP> is C 1-6 alkyl, R<SP>2</SP> is hydrogen or a protecting group, R<SP>3</SP> is hydrogen, C 1-10 alkyl, C 3-7 cycloalkyl, C 2-10 alkenyl, phenyl, C 1-6 alkylphenyl, nitrophenyl or a group (in which R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>6</SP> are hydrogen or C 1-6 alkyl or together represent C 3-7 cycloalkyl and R<SP>6</SP> is hydrogen or a protective group) and the dotted line represents an optional bond, with the proviso that when R<SP>2</SP> is hydrogen, R<SP>3</SP> is (in which R<SP>6</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> are hydrogen and R<SP>5</SP> is n-pentyl and the optional bond is absent, then R<SP>1</SP> is not methyl, are prepared by reacting a compound II: with R<SP>3</SP>C#C-M (where M is an alkali or alkaline earth metal cation) to give a compound I (R<SP>2</SP>=H, R<SP>3</SP>-C#C=R<SP>3</SP>-C#C) and, if desired, hydrogenating said compound after optionally protecting any free hydroxy group. Compounds prepared are those in which R<SP>1</SP> = Me, R<SP>2</SP> = H and R<SP>3</SP> = n-pentyl.
