Abstract

1432168 Automatic exchange systems SIEMENS AG 24 July 1973 [25 Aug 1972] 35175/73 Heading H4K To set up a connection in a TDM system in which a plurality of time slots in the same frame can be combined to give a higher capacity channel, a command criterion is read into a storage cell associated with a free time slot at a transmitting station and this command criterion is transmitted in the corresponding time slot to an exchange, the command criterion including information as to which time slots, in association with the slot used for the command criterion, are to be used for the transmission and information as to which type of transmission is to be used i.e. the transmission of coded or uncoded scanned values (so called transparent transmission) or direct pulse-governed transmission (so called non-transparent transmission). The command criterion may also constitute a "call criterion" or alternatively it may be transmitted prior to a "call criterion". When a multi-slot connection is no longer required a special connection clearing signal is transmitted to the exchange. The Specification discusses various binary codings for the command and clearing signals in dependence on the number of slots to be combined and the type of transmission (transparent or non-transparent) to be used.
