1431925 Triaxine derivatives E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 23 May 1973 [24 May 1972 22 Jan 1973 5 April 1973] 24676/73 Heading C2C [Also in Division A5] Novel herbicidal compounds of formula wherein R is C 3-8 alkyl, C 3-8 cycloalkyl, methylcyclopentyl, methylcyclohexyl, dimethylcyclohexyl, trimethylcyclohexyl, tetramethylcyclohexyl, C 4-7 cycloalkylalkyl, C 3-4 alkenyl, C 3-4 alkynyl, benzyl, or where Y is hydrogen, halogen, C 1-4 alkyl, nitro, C 1-4 alkoxy, C 1-4 alkylthio, cyano, or trifluoromethyl, Z is hydrogen, halogen, methyl, ethyl, nitro, C 1-4 alkoxy or C 1-4 alkylthio; and Q is hydrogen, halogen, or methyl; R 2 is C 1-4 alkyl, R 3 is SR 4 or OR 4 , where R 4 is C 1-6 alkyl, C 3-6 cycloalkyl, C 3-4 alkenyl, C 3-4 alkynyl or benzyl, and X 1 and X 2 are each independently oxygen or sulphur, are prepared by one of the following reactions: (1) or other alkylation method; (2) or (3) where M<SP>1</SP> is alkali metal. Intermediates prepared apart from those disclosed in Specification 1,408,601 are sodium- 3 - cyclohexyl - 6 - methylthio - s - triazine - 2,4-(1H,3H)-dione and sodium 3-(p-chlorophenyl)-6- methoxy - s - triazine - 2,4(1H,3H) - dione.
