Abstract

1431315 Sunshades W T GLAESER 20 July 1973 [21 July 1972] 34721/73 Heading A4P A sunshade, which may be in the form of a parasol, awning or roof covering, comprises a cover supported by cover supporting means and having a plurality of apertures for continuously exposing the user therebeneath to a portion only of the sunlight incident on the top of the cover. A collapsible parasol has a generally conventional type of cover, of cloth, plastics, metal foil or rubber, with a plurality of irregularly or regularly spaced holes therein for passing air and 20 to 75 per cent of the sunlight incident on the cover top. An unapertured supplementary cover may be removably fitted over the apertured cover. An alternative parasol has a central pole 10 with a crown 24 and a slider pivoted to ribs 12 and struts 14, the ribs 12 supporting a cover comprising a plurality of radially extending slats 22 pivotable about radial axes 28 extending between the hub and flexible peripheral frame elements 26, pivoting of the slats 22 varying the amount of sunlight passed through the openings between adjacent slats. The cover may be rotably mounted on the pole, being rotated by the wind acting on the slats 22, and also if desired on vanes 30, or by a battery powered motor.
