Abstract

1430918 Continuous winding apparatus BARMAG BARMER MASCHINENFABRIK AG 29 March 1974 [31 March 1973 24 Oct 1973 2 March 1974] 14047/74 Heading D1J This invention relates to a continuous winding apparatus of the kind in which two or more tube supporting chucks 9.1, 9.2 Fig. 5 are mounted in cantilever-fashion on a rotatable bobbin revolver 12, and in which there is a friction roller 7 on a carriage 2 that is displaceable to and from the revolver 12; the arrangement being such that when the package 11.1 nears completion the bobbin revolver 12 can be rotated to bring the next empty tube 10.2 into engagement with the friction drive roller 7, Fig. 7, whilst maintaining the driving engagement of the completed package with the friction drive roller. The engagement of the empty tube 10.2 with the friction drive roller 7 causes the empty tube to be brought up to the correct peripheral winding speed. The invention is concerned with the manner in which the filament being wound is transferred from the wound package 111.1 to the empty tube 110.2. According to the invention the filament 14.1 Fig. 1 is traversed by a guide groove 13 in the friction drive roller 7 and at change-over the filament being wound is first guided to a predetermined position and the filament length approaching the drive roller 7 is then drawn out by a filament guide 27.1 such that the resulting loop is snagged by catching means 39 at the end of the empty tube 10.2 or on the chuck 9.2 carrying the empty tube. To perform the invention in the embodiment illustrated in Fig. 1 the filament transfer operation commences by causing a filament guide 25.2 to swing away from the carriage 2 in a manner causing the filament 14 to be lifted out of the filament guide 4. The grooved roller 7 then causes the filament 14 to move along the guide 25.2 until the filament drops into an angled part 24.2 of the guide 25.2. An auxiliary filament guide 27.1 then moves down an inclined tube such that a pig-tail at its free end lifts the filament 14 out of the angled part 24.2 and draws it out in the form of a loop 14.3 such that the uppermost extent of the loop engages with the aforesaid catching means 39.
